Finding joy in our practice through hip-pelvic-posture awareness.

Using basic standing and seated Asana (postures) we will explore the relationship of the feet and legs to the pelvis and hips. This relationship can improve your overall postural integrity as well as teach your body how to move with more freedom and ease, both in your yoga practice and your daily activities.

Karin Young has been teaching yoga for 20 years. From Ontario, Karin now lives and works on Gabriola Island where she also teaches Iyengar Yoga.

Tracy Harvey has been teaching at Bend Over Backwards studio since 2012.

Participants will build a yoga practice from 12 poses including, standing, sitting, twisting and bending backwards. The basic principles of structural alignment will guide us.
Suitable for Beginners and Level 1/2 students wanting to create a daily home practice.

Yoga Class Descriptions 

ALL LEVELS

Includes poses from all Levels (1,2,3). Beginners are welcome. Students are guided to work safely and appropriately at their current level.

Women's Health
ALL LEVELS 

 Through yoga postures and pranayama (breath work) we will explore the role of yoga in all phases of a woman's life.

Gentle
Modified ALL LEVELS

A slower paced class for those working with chronic conditions or injuries. This class may be suitable for those not used to physical exercise.

Back, Neck & Shoulders
Modified ALL LEVELS

A class focused on back, neck and shoulder issues.

Feet & Knees
Modified ALL LEVELS

A class focused on feet and knee issues.

LEVEL 1

Foundational poses are systematically and safely taught to build mobility, strength and flexibility. Suitable for beginners and students wishing to focus on basic postures and principles of Iyengar Yoga.

Aging Gracefully 1
Modified LEVEL 1

A Level  1 class for those 60+

LEVEL 1,2

Suitable for students who have Iyengar Yoga experience wishing to expand the number of poses learned and further develop inverted postures.

Men's Class
Level 1, 2

Ken will introduce you to sequences of yoga postures designed to build and support strength, flexibility and balance.

Aging Gracefully 2
Modified LEVEL 1,2

 A Level 1,2 class for those 60+

Gentle Transition
Modified LEVEL 1,2

 A Level 1,2 transitional class for students of any age that are ready for more standing work with less support.

LEVEL 2,3

Students will develop a deeper understanding of postures and strengthen the practice of inverted poses and backbends. Elements of the intermediate poses will be explored.

LEVEL 3

For ongoing students working with all categories of poses on a regular basis who have a personal practice.
Pranayama LEVEL 1

The study of yogic breath.
*NEW* Class starts Wednesday, October 25, 2017, 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm with Tracy Harvey 

Pranayama LEVEL 2 For students who have at least 1 year of pranayama practice in the Iyengar Tradition.  
Peace Practice
ALL LEVELS Restorative

Invite deep relaxation and mental peace into your week in this one hour practice.  Peace Practice is by donation.

Restorative Yoga is designed to release tension and stress through gentle supported postures and conscious breathing. Suitable for all levels.

 Chair Yoga

 For those with restricted mobility.
